Organically Grown

Here’s a startling fact for you – if everyone in the world switched from conventional cotton to organic cotton, we would stop 170 million pounds of toxic chemicals from being poured into the environment every year.

How about that?

People are catching on – at the beginning of 2008, the organic market was $1.9 billion, and it’s projected that the figure will reach $6.8 billion by 2010.

We’re starting to incorporate organic products into our lifestyle, so I was very excited when I was given the opportunity to review organic cotton baby clothes from Organically Grown, a Los Angeles-based company with access to 30,000 acres of organic cotton farmland. The cotton is grown pesticide-free and without the use of genetically-modified seeds. The clothes are incredibly soft and comfortable for babies.

Organically Grown’s baby apparel line can be found at stores such as Macy’s, Dillards and Buy Buy Baby. Their infant layette, sizes newborn-9 months, is made from brushed jersey and terry velour organic cotton. Three piece sets include combinations of baby gowns, body suits, jackets, pants, blankets and hats, and are affordably priced and range from $20-$38.

They are just the softest, coziest clothes – I want some for myself! Fortunately, they are introducing a line of women’s wear, along with infant bedding and room décor, cosmetics, skin care, household cleaners, and girls’ underwear, in spring 2009.

Organically Grown’s mission is to bring safe, affordable, organic, worker-friendly products to the marketplace. Now that is a company I want to support!
