Congratulations to Tangie, the winner of this great giveaway!
My little Sammy has super-sensitive skin, so much so that his diaper area breaks out at the mere sight of perfume-y diapers. Several months ago we tried all-natural Seventh Generation diapers, and his bottom cleared up almost immediately. So I was very excited to have the opportunity to review and host a giveaway for Seventh Generation cleaning products! Seventh Generation is the world’s most trusted brand of authentic, safe, and environmentally-friendly products for the living home.
We all want to keep our family safe and healthy… so we try to keep our houses clean, right? But the very products used to clean and protect our homes from germs could be harmful to our families and the environment. In fact, more than 50% of human poison exposure victims are children younger than six years (American Association of Poison Control Centers) and the average American household contains 63 hazardous chemical products!
Seventh Generation also conducted a survey with Harris Interactive and found that 70% of parents with kids under six years old store their household cleaning products/solutions under the sink (including me), but 47% cannot name one ingredient in the cleaners that they are using and storing within reach of their children (yeah, also including me)!
Because of these alarming statistics, Seventh Generation is urging people to kick off their “spring cleaning” by first cleaning out what is under their kitchen sink. They’ve created great new resource called Health eHome that will help all of us uncover the hazards in our homes. Seventh Generation created Health eHome in collaboration with WebMD
to provide a personalized educational platform that helps uncover potential dangers and hazards identified as “hot spots in a virtual home. The tool also has an expert blog that provides trusted information on creating a cleaner, greener lifestyle and parents can test the safety of their home by doing a “Health eHome Check,” where they can get personalized results and an action plan for their
home.
I took the quiz, and it really opened my eyes to a lot of hidden dangers in my own house! Fortunately, the results of the quiz were very helpful and didn’t just say “You suck!” as I feared they would.
So let’s get to the bottom line here, the giveaway! Seventh Generation has been kind enough to offer a gift bag full of their outstanding products! I’ve had the opportunity to use them in the last few days, and they are really great. My favorite is the dishwashing detergent – I can’t tell a bit of difference in the performance of it and my very chemically other stuff! The all-purpose cleaner is also great. Best of all, they are products you can feel good about using. They’re safe for the environment and safe for your family.
To enter, complete the eHealthy Home Check (it just takes a minute!) and leave a comment here with a take-away tip you picked up. For an additional entry, tweet about the contest on Twitter and leave a comment letting us know you did. The contest will end at 5:00 p.m. on April 14, and a winner will be chosen using random.org.
Good luck, and thanks to Seventh Generation for sponsoring this great contest! Also, make sure you join the Seventh Generation Nation on SeventhGeneration.com to receive monthly downloadable coupons!

I had no idea that plywood can emit chemicals! Something interesting to learn!
Wow, talk about an overwhelming amount of information… enough to make you feel like it’s impossible to have a safe home for your child. I learned that Paraben is a preservative in personal care products.
I’ve always wanted to try Seventh Generation products.
Flame retardant materials emit harmful gases! Yikes!
did not realize there are so many harmful chenicals in personal cars products
I’ve been researching this stuff for YEARS. It’s so hard to eliminate all chemicals and dangers from your house. The comment the website made about indoor air quality being worse than outdoor is so scary!!! We do what we can; using nontoxic cleaners, and we bought a nontoxic crib mattress. But it can be expensive to switch to natural/nontoxic. Which really is a shame. I do love Seventh gen dish soap though!! It smells so good!!!!!!!
I’d never thought about flame-retardant pajamas being a hazard! Fortunately not too many of my son’s PJs are treated to make them flame-retardant. I guess it makes complete sense, but I’d just never thought through it. Thanks!
I saw that silicone pacifiers and diapers that are chlorine free are safer and greener for my kids.
It never crossed my mind that flame retardant clothes and mattresses could be harmful.
I was amazed about the radon gas thing in the basement. We recently bought our house and have a finished basement. Guess I should start researching that one! Thanks! I also LOVE Seventh Generations baby wipes! I can get those at Kroger, but I’m not sure they carry the diapers. Their bathroom cleaner smells so good too!
Wow – talk about overwhelming. I have never known about plywood giving off chemicals or that the smell from a plastic shower curtain indicated that it had VOCs. I have started slowly going green (or should I say green-er) but a lot of it is cost-prohibitive for me. Isn’t that a shame? I want my family to be safe and healthy, so I have to find frugal, green options.
Filtering drinking water may be healthier than drinking from plastic bottles. I knew the bottles were bad for the environment but I didn’t know they were bad for me too!
A water filter in the kitchen is a worthwhile investment and may be better for you that buying bottled water.
I learned that you can reduce lead dust in your home by 60% by taking your shoes off before walking in.
Filtered tap water is better than bottled water! Yeah, we already do this!
You can spray vinegar on weeds to kill them? Didn’t know that.
that window coverings get humid & harbor mold….lovely, lol
I love Seventh Generation products!! I learned that I can keep carpenter ants and other pests out by sprinkling Borax along walls.
I learned that PHTHALATES are chemicals used to make plastic soft and disperse scents. They are found in vinyl shower curtains, artificially scented detergents, and other products. I am determined to look for phthalate-free detergents and avoid plastic when I can!

one take away tip was use a hydrogen-peroxide-based bleach in your laundry instead of chlorine bleach
Synthetic fragrances contain chemicals which disrupt hormone production in animal studies and flame retardants can cause health problems….this was a very eye-opening quiz!!

Well, a tip that I got to keep my home and family healthy is to either buy bio-degradable, eco-friendly household cleaners, OR use a natural mix of vinegar and baking soda…I’m going to try that vinegar mix!!
